Under the direction of Ryan Underhill, our full-time, year-round Camp Director, RKY Camp's energetic staff is chosen because of their commitment to working with children. They are primarily university and high school students, and most of them have been to camp as campers. All staff are trained in childcare, first aid and emergency procedures. Each of them knows the importance of being a friend, a teacher and a role model.
At RKY Camp, safety is always first! Whether on the waterfront, on outtrip, in a cabin, or on the Climbing Wall, our staff are trained to ensure a positive experience for everyone. As a YMCA Camp and an accredited member of the Ontario Camping Association, RKY Camp meets or exceeds stringent safety standards set by both organizations.
Campers are always supervised by qualified camp staff, qualified lifeguards work on the waterfront and go on canoe trips, and all participants are required to wear lifejackets or P.F.D.'s when aboard any watercraft. In case of illness or emergency, trained health care staff reside at camp and a doctor is on call 24 hours a day. Our kitchen provides three nutritious meals and a snack each day in accordance with the Canada Food Guide. We strive to provide a physically and emotionally safe atmosphere for all at camp. The Camp Director thus reserves the right to expel from the camp - at the parent's expense - anyone whose behaviour compromises the well-being of themselves or others. We take every step to ensure that everyone's stay at RKY Camp is a healthy and safe one. |
