We feel it is important to be transparent with our families as our fees have increased since we last operated a Summer Camp in 2019. Below are the key factors influencing our decisions.
Summer Staff Wages
RKY will be joining a growing movement in the camping industry this summer. Overnight camps in Ontario are not required to pay minimum wage to their Summer Staff if room and board is provided. This has created a gap between what a prospective camp staff could make in the "city" vs. Summer Camp. This is a barrier to bring our staff back after being away for two years. But more importantly, it creates a financial barrier for our amazing participants who would like to work at RKY but cannot afford the experience. RKY will be increasing Summer Staff wages this summer by 50%.
Food Costs
Through extensive research and our experience operating our kitchen this past summer, we have seen a substantial increase in food costs. We anticipate food to be more expensive next summer, which is why we are planning for a 30% increase in kitchen expenses (vs. 2019).
