Director Update

The middle of Winter seems like the perfect time to send everyone an update on our preparations for Summer Camp!

Planning and preparing camp for our first Summer of classic RKY fun since 2019 is moving along well. Here are some key updates for you and your campers:

We have almost all of our hiring complete. Our counselling team is overflowing (literally), as we want to be sure there is plenty of support in the most important place at camp... the cabin! We have our first staff zoom meeting coming up in preparation for camp and our staff are jumping in the pool to continue their certifications.

Camp Operations:

Summer Camps are under the umbrella of the Ministry of Health and Public Health Ontario. We have been told that there will be a substantial review of the guidance in place for summer camps in April. We have a Public Health approved operational manual in place from our Overnight Leadership Program last summer. We will be prepared to share a revised plan with you shortly after the guidance update from the Ministry.

Camper Information Form:

Our 2022 camper form is under review and will be ready in March. For new families to RKY, this is a document where you pass along important information about your camper (health, dietary, cabinmate requests, personal notes, etc).

Vaccine Policy:

RKY is currently drafting a vaccine policy and protocol. At our February Board of Directors meeting, we will be discussing a working draft of the document. In the spirit of managing expectations, I do anticipate sharing a policy with families that will involve the requirement of all RKY camp participants to be fully vaccinated for COIVID-19 while at camp. RKY staff have already been informed that this will be a requirement of their employment.

All signs are pointing to another summer full of "Camp Magic". Over the last 5 years, RKY has been revitalizing our 90+ year old Summer Camp. Thanks to our families, community and donors we have invested over $3,000,000 into our facilities. We will be ready to welcome our campers back to camp and a brand new/same old RKY this summer. We hope to offer an open house this spring, as well as a virtual information session. We will share more information about this when we can. In the meantime, here is a link to the Facilities page of our website which showcases all of the improvements and some things that never change:)

You can look forward to an update from us in March and regular social media progress photos of the final phase of our revitalization projects and plans for the summer.

Yours in Camping,

D'Arcy Munn
