We value transparency with everyone; our staff, campers and their supporting families
While RKY Camp fees are 20% lower then the average Ontario Overnight Summer Camp, we would still like to explain why we raised our fees in 2023.
Staff Wages
Overnight camps in Ontario are not required to pay minimum wage to their Summer Staff if room and board is provided, due to a clause in Ontario Employment Law. This has created a gap between what a prospective camp staff could make in the "city" vs. Summer Camp.
This creates a financial barrier for our amazing participants who would like to work at RKY but cannot afford the experience. This also prevents some of our staff from staying with us for multiple summers. Because of this RKY camp has committed to pay its Summer staff at least Minimum Wage by the Summer of 2025. We have increased our staff wages by 56% since 2019, and are happy to say that we have seen more returning staff applications then ever before
Inflation
RKY has seen a substantial increase in our operating costs over the past few years. We have been successful in applying for grants the mitigate these extra expenses, but some costs to have to be supported by our camper fees. Summer Camp fees have been raised by 6% in 2023 to account for this.
Financial Assistance
RKY Campership Fund
RKY Camp is committed to providing summer camp and outdoor experiences to all youth regardless of financial circumstances.
In 2019, we assisted 66 individuals through various Financial Assistance programs; available for all overnight summer programs and many year-round outdoor centre programs.

Funding is not provided by any external government agencies and for these reasons our ability to assist individuals and families is limited.

In order to assist as many individuals as possible we require applicants to contribute to their RKY Camp program to the best of their ability. To begin, please fill out the Financial Assistance application.

We do our best to assist as many families as possible. Everyone—regardless of previous financial assistance applications to RKY Camp—can apply.
