At RKY Camp we believe that the key to our success is ensuring that our participants and campers have an experience of a lifetime. We want campers and participants to feel safe, challenged and most of all at home.

RKY Camp has a strong tradition of hiring qualified and committed staff members. All of our staff participate in many training opportunities to prepare them to deliver the highest quality of programming. RKY Camp prides itself in hiring qualified and experience counsellors who care about our participants’ well being and the well being of RKY Camp.

All RKY Camp Staff possess:

  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C

  • A clear Vulnerable Sectors criminal reference check

  • YMCA Child Protection Training

  • Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Training

  • Minimum Bronze Cross Lifesaving Society Qualifications

    • All Waterfront Staff have full Lifeguarding Certifications

  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Certification

Various Staff also possess:

  • Various Ontario Recreations Canoeing and Kayaking Certifications

  • Advanced Wilderness First Aid Certifications

  • Challenge Course Facilitation Certifications

  •  Outdoor Council of Canada Certifications

RKY Camp strives to achieve a 5 camper to 1 counsellor ratio in our summer camp program as well as a strong commitment to 24 hour supervision.

 Our outdoor centre facilitation program runs at a 15 participants to 1 facilitator ratio. Ratios increase as dictated by the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association guidelines.

RKY Camp is composed of:

  • 1 Full Time Director

  • 1 Full time Assistant Director

  • Full time facilities team

  • A permanent part time registrar

  • Approximately:

    • 60+ summer seasonal staff

    • 20+ spring seasonal staff

    • 12 + fall seasonal staff

    • Various on-call winter staff

  • Support staff members from the YMCA of Kingston

  • A founding board of directors comprised of Rotary, Kiwanis and YMCA of Kingston members.

This environment will be free of harassment and violence of any definition. Any actions to the contrary will not be tolerated by policy or staff culture. 

RKY has in place extensive trainings and support structures to insure the adherence to this commitment.  Further, any actions by a staff member that contradict our anti violence and harassment policies (in line with Bill 168 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act) will result in the immediate removal from the work environment and RKY property pending the result a third party investigation.
